PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AT THE CHURCH IN CARRIGALINE?
Dear Sir,
As a Mum, with a toddler and baby, I would like to ask why there
is no provision for a pedestrian or even better, pelican crossing
at the Catholic Church in Carrigaline.
When I take my children to the village, we regularly pop into the
church. Afterwards, when we come out, we have to cross the road
towards the hotel and it is downright dangerous. We could go all
the way back to SuperValue to cross over at the pedestrian
crossing there, but it is too far for a little toddler to walk
and I don't want my children to miss out on 'paying a visit' to
the church either.
Currently, we literally take our lives into our hands, to cross
over. No-one will stop, until we actually step out onto the road
and even then people sometimes speed up, to swerve around us. I
have even noticed that some of these crazy drivers are women with
children of their own strapped into the back seats of their cars.
Eventually a lady or gentleman driver comes along and lets us go
across the road - unfortunately these lady/gentlemen drivers are
in the minority. Sadly.
I hope that it does not take a fatality in the area to encourage
the development of a pedestrian or pelican crossing here.
Perhaps all integrated traffic lights system/pelican
crossing on that overly busy roundabout, could work well?
I hope that our politicians and media people will look at this
one.
Meanwhile, please as a Mum, call I appeal to drivers to let
parents cross the road safely, with children? Surely we could
slow down once in a while, so that our little ones are able to do
something so basic as to cross the road after visiting the
church?
Yours faithfully, (Name and address with Editor)
