LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

DEIRDRE CLUNE, TD., WRITES ...

I am writing to update you on recent developments in relation to the above site, which as you will be aware has been neglected and let fall into a derelict state for some time now.

Bord Pleanala have granted permission to Cork Corporation on 23/03/01 to acquire the site. Cork Corporation now intends to place the site for sale on the open market. Meanwhile Cork Corporation intends to secure the property.

I am glad to report that this point has been reached after so many years and I hope that the remaining stages of this procedure can be completed as soon as possible.
If you would like to discuss this or any other issue of concern with me, I would be happy to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
Deirdre Clune, T.D.

DEIRDRE FORDE, MCC, WRITES ...

Cork County Council will commence improvements to footpath in Douglas at O'Sullivan Bar; and South County. The Douglas West footpath adjacent to Credit Union is being considered under any traffic management proposals for the area. They will also clean section of river from Ravensdale within the next three weeks and will be resurfacing the Grange Road from Munster Carpets to Grange Erin. They have also confirmed to me that sections of footpath in Shamrock Lawn are on the current footpath programme and will be attended to in the coming weeks.
Other estates being resurfaced are The Marlings; Woodlands and Kingslea. Council have made special submission to the Department of the Environment and Local Government for extra funding for the County as a whole. I have submitted a further list of Estates and roads and footpaths around Douglas, which need urgent attention. For instance Tramway Terrace and road section from Douglas Court Roundabout to Fingerpost Roundabout are to be done next year but I expect these works to be expedited when extra money comes on stream. Lion House Car Park will be resurfaced in the Summer. This work will consist of White Lining Surface Drainage; Lighting and Planting. This will hopefully alleviate some of the traffic congestion but obviously much more needs to be done in that regard.
I have also asked the Area Engineers to ask the Gardener to examine how the Roundabouts could be improved. In particular the Roundabout on the Rochestown Road and the Roundabout outside Douglas Court Shopping Centre.

Talk to you again next week.
Regards D. FORDE, MCC
