TRAFFIC & PROPOSED MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK

Dear Michael,

I would be grateful if you would allow me some space in your paper to voice my concerns about the continually worsening traffic situation in Douglas Village.
Of chief concern to me is the proposed multi-storey car park in the Douglas Village Shopping Centre. The Developer's Environment Impact Report would have us believe that this will improve the traffic movement in the area but if they are wrong will they take it down again'?
Put simply, traffic congestion (gridlock) gets worse when you attract increased numbers of cars into an area without the provision of adequate infrastructure.
Furthermore how do we know that the high rise car park if allowed to go ahead will not act as a benchmarking precedent for future high rise developments in Douglas?
It is my feeling that Douglas to get what it is entitled to and the protection that the area deserves, badly needs proper independent representation at Cork County Council and maybe even at Dáil Erin.
Thanking you for your time and space.
Yours truly, John Collins

BETTER FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS PLEASE!

Dear Michael,
I'm writing to express my annoyance with the local clergy and their lack of consideration regarding funerals in our Parish, especially St. Columba's Church.
Arranging funerals for 2 - 2.30pm on a week day has to be crazy, the two priests are chairman of the local primary schools and know that the schools are out at 2.30pm.
It isn't fair on the people grieving to have children spilling out around them - and hearing them laughing and talking and all that goes with children leaving school grounds.
There is no parking and traffic, which is bad anyway, reaches a critical point at these times, also a school bus comes to collect the children near the church, where there is no parking or room during a funeral.
Wake up Priests! Surely funerals can be arranged at 12pm or 3pm, this would eliminate the problem.
Wise up, please. Yours in Concern
