LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

MOTION FOR RAMPS IN MAHON ...

Dear Michael,

You had a letter recently from a resident of Avenue De Rennes in Mahon, who was very concerned about the safety of residents and children due to the volume and speed of traffic using the avenue. The resident suggested that ramps should be placed at this location as a deterrent to speeding cars.
I just want to say that I could not agree more with your letter writer. I wish to inform your readers that I have a motion before Cork Corporation asking that not alone ramps be placed here but also a Pelican crossing be installed near the new Gael Scoil on Avenue de Rennes in order to ensure the safe crossing of children using the school but also for local residents.
My motion which was put down some time ago is due for consideration in this session of Council meetings and I will inform you and local residents of the outcome in due course.
In the meantime, if I can be of any assistance in this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely,
Terry Shannon P.C.

DOUGLAS TIDY TOWNS ...

Dear Michael,

Congratulations to committee members and volunteers who helped Douglas Village receive the best new entrant in the Urban Village category in the Tidy Town 2001.
Also the help given by you in helping to communicate the message that Douglas can and is a good place to live and to do business in.

I hope to see many new people for the next stage of the Tidy Towns competition as there is a lot of work to be done.

I would like to thank all those who wished us well during the week.

Finally Douglas has made a good start and some of the Village pride has made its way onto the National stage. This is only the start.

Is mise le meas

Chairman,
