ANGER AT CHARITIES ...

Dear Editor,

It never ceases to amaze me the soft touch us Irish perceived to be. Every hour of the day either on TV the newspapers, on the streets or outside our churches, the hand or box is out for the expectant contribution. I know from experience, that this would not be tolerated in United Kingdom or America. To all the collectors out there, please remember, ''the Celtic Tiger'' didn’t touch everyone? Draw your own conclusions.
I seriously questioned myself about where my contribution was going. Nowadays, I don’t contribute to ''Goal''. The clergy are constantly moaning about the church contributions and the lack of cash been given at masses. I have a simple remedy for this; reduce the amount of outside church gate collections. There seems to be a collection every Saturday and Sunday for some cause.
In my parish alone, we are beggared beyond belief by collections. One Sunday alone we had 3 collections.
The same applies to shopping centres, almost every day of the week; there is a collection for something or other. Money does rule the roost, especially in cork.

HISTORY OF ST. LUKES ...

We are currently researching the history of St. Luke's School, Douglas with view to publishing a book to mark the opening of the extended and refurbished school. We have no photos of the original school buildings before 1980. May I appeal to your readers to send us any photographs relating to the school which they may have. We will return them after scanning them.

THANK YOU DOUGLAS WEEKLY ...

Dear Michael,

I’m writing this letter on behalf of six ladies. We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to dance the night away to Art Supple and Dickie Rock at The Rochestown Park Hotel just before Christmas.
It was a great nights entertainment, not tp mention the fantastic meal which was served up before us from the Rochestown Park Hotel.
A great night was had by all, and once again our sincere thanks and appreciation.
