Thank You Douglas Village /
Support Requested
St. Columba's with facility for Deaf Children would like to thank
the Douglas Village Shopping Centre for their recent sponsorship
of 1,000 for the school. Our thanks also to Mrs Linehan of
Shamrock Lawn for nominating the school. The money will be put to
good use in the continued development of the school.
This year we hope to construct a sensory playground in the school.
We are holding a Gala fashion Show in conjunction with Douglas
Rotary on Tuesday march 12th at Rochestown Park Hotel. We look
forward to the support of Douglas Weekly readers at this event.
Our thanks again to the management and staff of the Douglas
Village Shopping Centre for their generous sponsorship.

Thank you
The Committee of Tramore Athletic F.C. would very much like to
thank the Douglas Village Shopping Centre for the cheque for 1000
Euro, which we won recently in the "Cash for Community"
promotion.
We would also like to thank all those who went to great efforts
to nominate our club.
Tramore Athletic appreciates the great work put into organising
this competition.
Clubs like our`s find it increasingly difficult to obtain
sponsorship as there are so many other deserving causes.
We are delighted to be winners on this occasion.
Yours in sport,
Sheila Finn Hon. Secretary.
Thank you Douglas Village Shopping Centre
On behalf of the Douglas and District Lions Club, I would like to
thank the organisers of the Douglas Village Shopping Centre
Community Awards Scheme for their cheque of 1,000. I would
also like to thank Sheila Maloney for nominating us as a
recipient.
Douglas Village Shopping Centre is to be congratulated for
promoting community initiatives and we wish them well in the
service they provide to the community.
The needy in Douglas will be the beneficiaries of your generosity
Yours Sincerely
Patrick Barry

Road Sweeping
Dear Michael
On Fridays, a street-cleaning truck very often passes down
Rochestown Road and I think that it would be a very good idea if
the footpaths could be manually swept in advance of this
operation as they are in a terrible condition. The resulting
debris could then be swept up by the truck. There are very nice
hedges bordering the footpath and they, as well as the paths are
littered. This is a very popular area for walking and should be
maintained.
Another black spot is the shrubbery at the start of the
Carrigaline Road, above the Church. It appears the Council or the
their contractors cut back some of the trees/shrubs. This was a
good idea but the resulting branches were left strew on the paths
and sides of the footpath inside this area. Once again, it made
life difficult for pedestrians.
Yours sincerely

Letter from Worldwide Marriage
Encounter
Dear Friends
We hope all is well with you, and look forward to the time we can
get together again soon. We ourselves are flourishing and
blooming, and particularly looking forward to the coming of
'Spring' and the awakening of new life all around us.
The annual Dinner/Dance in January went off really well, and
seems now to have become accepted as a yearly event with the
numbers attending doubled from the previous year.
Which reminds us that at the Dinner/Dance we gave out a
'questionnaire' asking what sort of events would be good to put
on in the future, to date we have had about 15 replies and all
were of a positive nature. For those of you who haven't as yet
replied, or who didn't receive a copy of the questionnaire we
attach a copy and of course if you have already sent it off then
just ignore it.
We will be circulating further news later, including a breakdown
of the general response to our questionnaire, but for now we must
get to a very important date on the calendar 12th April 2002.
The next scheduled 'Marriage Encounter' weekend takes place at:
Coolcower House. Macroom. Co Cork. 12th 14th April 2002.
To date there are only three couples & one priest booked, and
so we are asking you to make a real effort in the next few weeks
to invite others to go.
We ourselves are going to do our best to fill the weekend ( and
by the way the centre can cater for 10 couples) but to be honest
with you we are knee deep in writing the new presentations (the
weekend has changed again) and in helping the rest of the 'Team'
prepare so we cant do as much inviting as we would have liked to.
We are also in the middle of building extensions to our home, and
just haven't got so much time to get out there and talk to people.
So Folks, we need your help to make the April weekend possible,
please remember what the weekend did, and is continuing to do for
you, and reach out with the gift of it to others make a real
effort. In order to keep the 'Marriage Encounter' movement alive
and kicking in this part of Ireland we need new people coming
into it all the time.
Please don't leave the task of inviting others to someone else,
think of it as being really up to you, because it is.
Perhaps for some of you it is a number of years since you
experienced the weekend yourselves, well give a boost to your
relationship and book onto the 12th April yourselves.
We well remember the 'presenting team' on our original weekend
telling us on the Sunday, that 'We could change the World'. They
added that they were going to do it with or without us well today
we realise that no way could they do it without us and no way can
we do it without YOU.
So, please folks, in the next few weeks do your best to speak to
other couples and book them for the April weekend, it really is
important. Don't let the weekend be cancelled, or if that is to
be don't let it be through lack of effort on your part.
Imagine that the Lord calls you As you approach those pearly
gates. Jesus comes to meet you with his hands outstretched And He
says what did you do with the love I gave you? With all humility
you look up and say 'I shared it Lord'.
So please do. In this instance by inviting other onto 12th April.
Thank You. With all our love. Clive & Kathy.
PS. The Booking Couple for the Weekend are;
Dave & Anna Mahoney. Ard Na Greine. Bridgemount.
