NEMO RANGERS
Nemo Rangers Senior Section
In Ballinlough on Monday evening the junior A hurlers faced St.
Finbarr's in a much awaited championship match. Nemo were slow to
start and fell behind early on but soon they were back in
contention thanks to points from James Masters. Both sides
continued to exchange points and the Barrs went in at the break
with a slender lead. In the opening minutes of second half the
Barrs upped the tempo and increased their lead. Nemo responded
well and kept themselves in the game. But just as Nemo got within
one or two points of the Barrs they were hit by a late brace of
goals. To Nemo's credit they kept battling on but at the final
whistle the Barrs had a comfortable lead. Best for Nemo were
James Masters, Ronan Murphy, Ciaran O'Shea, Gary Crowley and Adam
Murphy.
On Saturday evening the minor hurlers played Valley Rovers in
Brinny. Two goals before halftime gave Valley Rovers a
comfortable lead at the break. In the second half Nemo did their
best to reduce the deficit but it was never enough. Paul Madden,
Fiachra O'Leary and Brian McNally all played well.
The senior footballers were in action against Bishopstown last
Thursday. Nemo led at halftime by a couple of points. In the
second half however too many wides cost us the game as
Bishopstown led at the end, 0-12 to 0-8. Larry Kavanagh, Kevin
Cowhie, Brian Morgan, Maurice McCarthy and Eoin Weldon all served
Nemo well.
Nemo Rangers' Underage Section
In the U-11 football league Nemo played Mayfield. Nemo took their
time to get going in the first half but as the game progressed
began to play better football. The backs played very well in
particular Conor Hodnett. In the second half they began to take
control of the game but Mayfield never gave up. The final score
was 4-6 to 2-3 in favor of Nemo. Liam Doyle and Stephen Lenoard
also played well.
Nemo U-11s played Bishopstown in the second match of the football
league. Nemo started very slowly with the backs under pressure
for most of the first half. The defence coped well but found it
difficult to get the ball into the forward line. Bishopstown led
by two points at the break. In the second half they began to play
much better football and eventually went a point in front.
Bishopstown got a late free and drew the game. The sides remained
level for the remaining minutes. The full-time score was 1-2 to 0-5.
Best for Nemo were Brian Manning, Stephen Lenoard and Michael
O'Keeffe.
The U-11s also played Bishopstown in the hurling league. Nemo
were struggling to field a team in this game. In the first 15
minutes we held our own with Bishopstown but as the game went on
Bishopstown began to take over. Coming up to halftime we got a
goal which brought us back into the game. However in the second
half we were unable to penetrate the Bishopstown defence and get
scores. Bishopstown ran out comfortable winners, 2-5 to 1-2.
Conan Kilcoyne had a great game in goal in the second half. Barry
O'Driscoll and Brian O'Hara also played well.

DOUGLAS GAA - SENIOR
PADDY BARRY CAPTAINS CORK TO VICTORY.
Paddy Barry became the first player from Douglas to captain a
Cork team to victory in a Munster championship final on Wednesday
night last.Paddy was captain of the Cork Intermediate hurling
team - Gary Wade was also on the panel.
UNDER 16 A HURLING.
Douglas overcame the challenge of Na Piarsaigh in the fifth round
of the league. The first half was most competitive. The Douglas
defence was in control with Thomas Cotter very commanding at hill
back. The conditions were difficult-scores were slow to come,
Douglas led 1-5 to 0-0 at the break. The introduction of Stephen
Moylan after the interval added a new dimension to the Douglas
attack. Eoin Cadogan was also prominent. Douglas proved too
strong for a very young Na Piarsaigh outfit.
MINOR B HURLING LEAGUE.
Douglas defeated glen rovers b in this encounter. Two early goals
by Andrew Shinnick gave Douglas a comfortable start. Glen Rovers
responded with some fine points to leave the halftime score 2-5
to 0-8.Once again Douglas started well after the resumption - a
fine goal by Fionnain 0'Sullivan. A flirther two goals sealed
victory for Douglas on a scoreline of 5-8 to 0-13 Richard Harris
and Barry Hanrahan were others to shine.
JUNIOR B HURLING.
Douglas lost out to St Vincents on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-6.
Padraig McCarthy, Terence Deveraux and Martin McSweeney played
well.
Cork City / Seandun played Co. Limerick in the Plate U 16 Munster
Football Final at Rathkeale. Cork would have been the underdogs
going into the game. This tag of outsiders did not deter Cork in
the least as they went on to record a marvellous victory on a
scoreline of 5 - 9 to 1 - 8. The Douglas Club made a huge
contribution to this team over the last few weeks and once again
the Douglas lads were very much to the fore on Saturday last. The
players involved were; David Dorney, Frank Tobin, James Moylan,
David O'Regan, Thomas Cotter, Paddy White, Kenny Barry and Mark
Harrington
CORK LADIES SOCCER LEAGUE
In Division 2 Buttevant are still top of the table with another
impressive win. They dominated the play and some good passing and
moving off the ball allowed them to open up the defence to score
4 times without reply. The goal scorers were Joanne Quinn,
Dolores O' Sullivan, N. Sheehan and Niamh Ring.
In division 1 Bandon kept another clean sheet with a 3 - 0 win
over HIBS. Both teams fought vigorously to win their share of the
points however it was to be Bandons night. The game looked like
it was going to be a 0-0 draw however for the last 10 minutes of
the match Bandon picked up their pace and Sinead O'Regan scored
the 1st goal. The second goal was truly splendid, Olivia Coomey
played the ball from the half way line and placed it neatly in
the back of the net leaving the keeper with no chance. Sinead
O'Regan scored once more to leave the end scoreling 3-0 to Bandon.
In the Premier League CSO took on Rangers. This was a very tough,
physical encounter. CSO began the game the stronger and were
beginning to create many opportunities on goal. However the
Rangers keeper was very strong on the night and denied CSO on
many occasions. About 20 minutes into the game Rangers scored
their first goal, which was against the run of play. A quick
break up the right wing allowed them to break through the CSO and
leave the keeper with no chance. Not long after they took the
lead they continued to press forward and were awarded with a
second goal. CSO showed great determination and spirit and clawed
their way back into the game themselves scoring to twice to leave
the scoreline equal at half time. These goals were scored by
Cliona O' Geran and Yvonne Harrington. The second half continued
as the first with a quick tempo and arduous battles. However
neither team were to break the deadlock and the game remained an
entertaining 2-2 on the night.
COLLEGE CORINTHIANS
With training for the new schoolboy season due to start in early
August, the schoolboy section has been busy finalising its plans
for the new season.
This year the Club will field a record eleven teams in the Cork
Schoolboys League. The teams will play under the names of
Corinthian Boys, Douglas Corinthians and Corinthians Utd. The
eleven teams will include three Under Eleven sides and two Under
Twelve Premier Division teams. The full breakdown is as follows;

New Players
With training starling in early August, all our school boy teams
are looking for new players to strengthen their squads for next
season. If anyone would like to get involved with one of our
schoolboy teams they should contact either Danny Drennan at
4363602 or Terry O'Donovan at 4891257.
Why Join Corinthians?
The schoolboy section is certainly geared for success. This year
the Club will field six
sides in the Premier Divisions of the Conk Schoolboys League. The
standard of our teams improves every year with our 1111 squad
doing the League and Cup double last season, while our U lO Team
reached the final of the U l I First Division League. At younger
age levels the Club has some of the finest talent in local soccer
with our Under Eight's and Under Nine's both winning the
Southside League and Cup double this season. All told our
underage teams won eight trophies last season and appeared in 11
different finals.
Coaching
The standard of coaching in Corinthians compares favourably with
any Club in Cork. The Club has five coaches who have completed
their Level 2 FAl Coaching Badge, while some 30 coaches currently
hold the Level 1 FM Coaching Badge.
The Club has recently appointed John Turner as Coaching Co-ordinator
for its schoolboy' S section. John will oversee the development
and coaching of our underage players, working closely with team
managers and coaches. John is the holder of a Level 2 FAI
Coaching Badge and has recently been involved with the Club's U
11 Team, which captured the League and Cup double in the Cork
Schoolboys League last season.
Link With Aston Villa
For the new season the Club will be linking up with English
Premier League Side Aston Villa. The linkup will primarily focus
on the coaching area, with Aston Villa sending over coaches from
their Youth Academy to work with Corinthians' Scboolboy coaches
and players. The Club will be hoping to send players and teams
over to Birmingham during the year to the Aston Villa Youth
Academy.

DOUGLAS GAA UNDERAGE
Community Games
Douglas took part in the Munster Community games against Thurles
Og from Tipperary. Douglas were very slow to settle in the first
10 minutes but once they got their act together they started to
play. Points from Oisin McGrath and a splendid goal from Ian
Kilcummins saw us in the lead at half time. The second half
started with the Douglas backs playing better than they did in
the first half. In the first half, our back line let the Thurles
Og forwards get the better of them, but a few words of wisdom
from Theo Cullane Snr. and Eddie Murphy seemed to work. Our
centre field began to play better hurling and our forwards were
getting plenty supply of the bail. Jamie Drennin in goal had a
marvellous game and saved two certain goals. Theo Cullane Jnr,
David Myler, Michael Doody Cian Meade and Ian Bermingham who was
very skill-full from frees. Final score DougIas 4-8 Thurles Og 2-3.
After our win over Thurles Og we were now in the final of the
Munster Community Games. Our opponents from Lismore in Waterford
were after winning their first game against the Clare Champions
by a point. We had a break of an hour before the final commenced,
so the Douglas team were refreshed going in to this game. Finally
the game started with Douglas playing with the aid of a slight
breeze. Douglas were first to score and playing the better
hurling. Lismore didn't know what hit them by the sheer
brilliance of the Douglas team. Richard Murphy who had a great
game at half back and also Cian Alcock who played very well at
corner back. Douglas won this game comfortably on a score line of
8-27 to 3-2. Cian Alcock accepted the Christy Ring Perpetual
Trophy on behalf of Douglas team. So now we are on the road again
to Mosney on the 25/26th of August and here is hoping that the
third time we'll be lucky to bring back the All Ireland Trophy to
Douglas.

Intermediate Hurlers in their Munster Final win here's hoping
that we will see the All Ireland Trophy' in the club shortly.
