DOUGLAS GAA SENIOR

DOUGLAS PROGRESS IN MINOR `A` HURLING CHAMPIONHIP

Report by Pat Harrington
Douglas played Brian Dillon’s in the first round of the championship. The Douglas lads came out of the traps very quickly and really took the St. Luke’s side to the cleaners – they led 1 – 6 to 0 – 0 after the first quarter. The half time score was Douglas 1 – 9 Brian Dillon’s 0 – 1.
The second half was a different kettle of fish as our opponents took the game to Douglas; Brian Dillon’s being just six points in arrears at the end of the third quarter. Dillon’s continued to dominate for the rest of the game despite being reduced to fourteen players, but were unable to deny Douglas victory. The game finished on a scoreline of 1 – 13 to 1 – 7 in favour of Douglas. Scores for Douglas came from:
R. Keating 0 – 4, F. O’Donovan 0 – 3, B. O’Connor 0 – 3, T. O’Callaghan 0 – 1,
S. Crowley 0 – 1, F. O’Brien 0 – 1, E. McCarthy 1 – 0.

JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
This game featured Glen Rovers against Douglas. Glen scored a goal in the opening thirty seconds setting the pattern for the first half as the northsiders dominated throughout to lead by 2 – 9 to 0 – 4 at the interval. Donal Meade was introduced as a substitute and made an immediate impact by scoring 1 – 1. Try as hard as they would Douglas were just not good enough. Scorers for Douglas were: M. Kennedy 0 – 4 (from frees), B. Horgan 0 – 1, J. O’Keeffe 0 – 1, J. Kenneally 0 – 1. The final score was Glen Rovers 2 – 17 Douglas 1 – 8.

MINOR PREMIER HURLING
Douglas played the Cork Under 16s in a challenge game in preparation for the championship. The O’Connor brothers combined well for the first goal of the game with Brian finishing well to the net. Cork under 16s finished the first half the better side and led 1 – 7 to 1 – 4 at the break. Douglas disappointed very much in the second half and lost on a scoreline of 2 – 10 to 1 – 6.

By the time you have read this hopefully the lads will have overcome Blackrock and qualified for a semi-final clash with Glen Rovers which is due to be played on Sunday 18.08.02.
