Students Star in the Wizard of Oz.

  The following is an excerpt from the Leitrim Observer dated the ? of December 1996.

" This tears musical presentation by the students of Drumshanbo Vocational School- The Wizard of Oz - is being staged in the May Flower Community Centre.

The musical , the Wizard of Oz is adapted from the MGM film of the same name.It is now regarded as a classic and every performance of the Wizard of Oz, which set Judy Garland on the Yellow Brick Road to stardom , casts a spell over the hearts and minds of audiences world-wide.

It tells the story of Little Dorothy, who finds herself carried away to Munchkin land and there she meets many colourful characters.

The scarecrow who has no brain, the Tinman, who has no heart, the Lion, who lacks courage, the Wizard of Oz, a bad witch and a good Witch and many others. The contains lovely musical evergreens "Over the Rainbow", and 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.'"

All in all it's a great nights entertainment. The part of Dotherty is played by Emer Daly, the Scarecrow is player by Thomas Nolan, the Tinman by Fiona McNiff, Lion by Conor Keoh, the Good Witch by Sinead Tiernan, the Bad Withch by Orla McManus, Wizard by Matthew McGourty, Aunt Em by Majella Healy, Gloria by Carol O'Dowd, Private by John Keane, the Lady by Pauline Finley and the Mayor by Ptrick McKenna.

Supported by a cast of 90 pupils, rehearsals have been taking place over the last five weeks and you are assured of a great nights entertainment of song, dance and drama.

The colourful sets are the work of our art department under the direction of our Art teacher, Louise Gilmartin. The music is in the capeable hands of Patricia Harmon, who co-produces the show with Lorraine McLoughlin.

Drumshanbo Vocational School's previous productions have included 'Joseph and the amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat', ' The Sound of Music', 'Oklahoma', 'Annie', 'Calamity Jane', and this years musical will be of the same high standard, so come along and enjoy the show.
