Dear Brendan, I was browsing through the Digital Photography Review web site and came across your comments about the Canon Digital Ixus E18 alert. I have an Ixus which has just stopped working with this alert for the secon time. The first time the camera lens jammed and reported an E18 error it was repaired by Canon under guarantee. This was some seven months ago. Two days ago the same fault occurred and unfortunately this time it is no longer covered under the guarantee. If you do have any information on how this fault can be repaired that might avoid this very high service charge, I would be very grateful. Yours sincerely Barry

Hi. I now have a brand new IXUS V, but this is only because Dixon's were too slow in getting someone to look at the faulty one. I'd be very interested in solutions to the E18 fault should it happen again, or any ways of preventing it from happening in the first place. I certainly won't be paying £270 to get it fixed when it comes out of guarantee. Thanks. Martin

Hello, I found while searching the web, that you might be able to assist in resolving E18 error situations. I have a S10 camera which locked up, right after I put in a new battery. Hey I´ve seen that you might have some solutions for the E18 problem. I´ve just got my camera and yesterday I saw the E18. I belived that it was the batteri becaurse it was also a problem to turn off the camera, to get the lens back inside again. Happened totally out of the blue. Great care has been given this little thing...so-GASP- what is this error? Ok, the dealio is this... I have the Digital Elph S110...E18 Error bottom left. I have taken the Flash Cards-formatted, reformatted...bought new ones...arghhhh. The camera shuts off after displaying the E18 error-in the camera mode, not the image viewer mode. I can actually open an, albeit can't maneuver through it, type of menu screen in the viewer mode. I also recharged the battery pack that comes with it...I don't think that's it though. Hi I notice your comment that you have a "solution" for the E18 erorr. I have this error on my camera and am worried that Canon will charge a fortune for assistance. The lens is "locked" and power off / on only displays either E18 or E16. It has done this once before but came back to life after I removed the battery or a couple of days and let it lose all power! Hallo and thanks for your offer of help in that E18 failure. The Ixus was 2 weeks old, when it stopped working with E18 message. Sending it to Canon Service it reached 4 weeks to get it back, the funktion was ok again, no costs because og garranty. The same E 18 message now 1 1/2 year later, Canon Service wants near 350 US Dollar to repair it. That is not far from actuel price in Germany today. What's your opinion about. In the DPReview I read that you had the answer for the E18 error I have a Canon Powershot A zoom which still works OK. Only the zoom = doesn't close properly and then I get the E18 message. Hi, I've been a very happy owner of a Canon Ixus V for 16 months, but am now
a victim of the dreaded E18 lens jammed error. I don't know if my case
differ's much from other people - basically the lens is about half way out.
When I turn the camera on I get a whirring/clicking noise as it attempts to
retract the lens, it reports the error, and turns itself off.

Any advice you can give on the matter would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I was looking on www.dpreview.com and found a posting
about the E18 error on the cannon IXUS V. Any
information you have regarding this would be much
appreciated. I've got an ikelite underwater housing
for it, and I only get the error intermittently when
its in the housing and I'm sumberged. I dont ever get
it on the surface, even if the camera is still in the
housing. I suspect it might be condensation related...

I need your insight concerning he E18 error that shows up after a while

I read somewhere that canon will charge me around $200 in order to fix it.
So... I guess I am going to try to fix it by myself.

Started after downloading pictures from second CF

Recently a friend dropped my Digital Ixus from about knee height onto a hard
floor. Now the lens is stuck open and it comes up with E18 on the display.
It does however let me browse through the contents of the CF card for a
short time until (i guess when it tries to close and withdraw the barrel) it
again comes up with the error 18.

I would really appreciate any help you can offer as it's out or warranty and
I don't have insurance or the money at the moment to pay to have it
repaired.
