Fáilte
Isteach (Welcome): This
website is an information centre for the various services I offer
and also includes a number of areas covering topics of personal
interest to me.
A little history:
I was born in Malahide, Co. Dublin, Ireland in 1951. I attended
national school there, then went to Chanel College, Coolock and
finally graduated from University College Dublin in 1973 with an
honours B.Sc. Following a short spell as a chemist with Linson Ltd.
(a subsidiary of E.R. Squibb), in 1974 I moved to Athlone, Co.
Westmeath, where I still live, to work for what would become Elan
Corporation plc. After twenty three years service I took early
retirement (not entirely voluntarily) and now offer the skills and
experience I gathered over my working life as part of my consultancy service.
Services
Offered: Over
a quarter of a century of working, one picks up many skills and
interests. In my case these include,
Computers
and Internet:
I lived and worked through the PC revolution. I have always had an
interest in the area and have been a computerphile for as long as I
can remember. I have applied this interest specifically in the areas
of small
business networking
(mainly for companies who need a network but lack the internal
resources to develop one), website
design and execution
(see my links for a list of sites I have designed), education
and training
(basic good practices for operators), programming
(I am a competant Visual Basic programmer) and a whole series of
other areas (if you need assistance in any area, ask me - I may be
able to help).
Quality Management:
I was the first person to be granted a fellowship of the Irish
Quality Association with the right to the letters F.I.Q.A. and I have
also been a "qualified person" under European Union
pharmaceutical legislation. Most of my working life has been involved
with Quality Management and I held the post of Group Vice President,
Quality Control at Elan. I also ran product development and
manufacturing departments, so I have seen quality management from
both sides of the fence. By the way, I am a listed inventor on
several patents for products developed during my R&D days, the
best known of which is probably the Nicotine transdermal patch. The
concept of Quality Management has moved way beyond the pharmaceutical
industry and many firms are now opting for ISO 9000 certification.
Heraldic
Graphics and Research:
Some people play golf, others drive fast cars. For some reason that I
don't quite understand, my major hobby has become heraldry and coats
of arms. It started in the 1980s when I became fascinated with
combining the ancient "science" of heraldry with the modern
power of the computer. I started to create computer graphics of
various coats of arms and this eventually led to a website
to display them. You can now purchase various products featuring my
creations at www.araltas.com.
You may also commission research at the same site.
Further
Information: If
you are interested in my services under any of the above headings (except
heraldry and coats of arms) please feel free to email: eddie@geoghegan.org (please
do not
send coats of arms requests to this email address. All such requests
are handled through the Araltas site).
My other major
interest is in the family history of the (Mac)Geoghegans and you can
read all about that here |
