Crooked House Theatre Company

As you may know, this October sees us becoming five years of age. We have performed seven productions, ranging from the classical (merchant of Venice) through lunchtimes (Fears of a Clown) to devised community theatre pieces (The Grid).

  • We have seen nearly 300 people perform with us.
  • Established Kildare youth theatre @ Crooked House.
  • Run weekly workshops for children and for adult beginners.
  • Devised and run projects with the Irish Wheelchair Association.
  • Given over thirty workshops to groups and organisations around the country.
  • Won awards at amateur level. Performed on national television and radio,

and managed to remain solvent through it all. Much of this has been because of the generosity and kindness of people like yourselves and for this I thank you on behalf of the company. Bealtaine 98.

Our productions for this year's festival in May are all lunchtimes (our fourth Gaze While You Graze).

We begin with excerpts from Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas on Tues 28th, Wed 29th and Thurs 30th April from 1.00 - 2.00pm.

This evocative masterpiece for voices which takes us through the dreams of the residents of a small Welsh fishing village is directed by Anne Mekitarian and features the students on the V.T.O.S Theatre Studies programme.

On Friday 1st May we change to our second play, A.R. Gurney's An Actor's Nightmare, a hilarious look at what happens when an accountant stumbles onto the theatre stage and is forced to perform several plays he knows nothing about.

This play will also be performed on Saturday 2nd May from 3.00 - 4.00pm and on Monday 4th from 1.00 - 2.00pm. It features the final year students from the theatre studies programme and is directed by Peter Hussey.

Kildare Youth Theatre @ Crooked House will be staging their Bealtaine performance on Saturday 2nd May from 1.00 - 2.00pm. It will be directed by Darren Donohue and Hugh Mc Ginley. Darren is also directing the annual performance by the children in our weekly workshop on Saturday 2nd May. This will be staged at 11.00am.

All of the above takes place in the Blue Room, VTOS, George's Street. Admission varies for each production, and will include lunch or light refreshments. For details, consult your festival programme closer to the dates or contact Crooked House.
