Richard Allenden --:
Will we have schools any more? It is hard to see into the future. More than likely there
will be always be schools "but not as we know them, Jim" as Captain Kirk says.
The difference being "NO School BAGS".The answer to our aching
backs will be, hey presto "Lap Tops". Pupils will still come to school for
subjects like woodwork, cooking, art and PE, anything that involves people and a chat. The
others, well they can be done at home through the computer. On our computers we will have
a golf ball camera on top of every monitor. This will enable us to see people on the other
side of the world in a classroom somewhere. We can only communicate with our key pals by
e-mail but we never see them or hear them live. Schools of the future should be more into
Internet chat so we could chat with our key pals live instead of waiting for replies to
our e-mails.At the moment we write a message, we sent it and then we have to wait until
they go online and read our messages, then wait until they write a reply and then wait
again until we go on line to pick up our reply. I would like to get into chat lines so I
could make contact with my key-pal and I could get answers to simple questions instantly.
This waiting is a bummer.
In the near future floppy drives will be dinosaurs, like they are now on the
new iMAC, which have no floppy disk drives. Three and half floppy
disks will be taken over by the zip disks. Most information will come on CD-ROM or on DVD.
Which is a digital versatile disc. We will all have digital cameras to interact with the
computer and our photos we take, then we can develop in the modern way, by putting them
through the colour printer. This will be handy for school projects. We will be able to see
each other and speak, as if they were beside us. Making web sites will be a simple every
day task. One will go out and buy a CD. ROM, like we go to day a buy a loaf of bread.
The good thing about staying at home to do our schoolwork is that there will be no
pressure on us or on our Mums to get us up on time for school. No more going out on cold
wet days. No more fights in the yard. Also by using our E-mail we will be able to stay in
touch with our classmates and there will always be the good advice from a teacher at hand.
He will be available at the other end of a computer.
The sad thing about staying at home would be not going out to the yard at break
time and kicking a ball around with ones friends. The internet will take over a lot of
stuff like reading, shopping and getting in touch with people all over the world. The
world as we know it, will surely be a smaller place. By using teleconference facilities,
we will be able to keep in touch with our relations and friends all
Hard Drive
over the world. We will also be
able to have lessons
between other pupils from different countries.
My Dad is a scanner operator for a Sunday newspaper. The scanner he first trained on is
now a dinosaur. As for books, these came in to our live many moons ago and it would be
very sad if they disappeared altogether so hopefully they wont, as I enjoy a good
read before going to sleep. The artist will always use pencils, even though they can do
some of their work on a computer. It will never be as good as a pencil.
Yes I hate to say it; we shall always have lessons and homework, as
without it, we wouldnt be this far-advanced in knowledge. Doing lessons pays off in
the long run. A teacher will always be around even though we may not always be sitting in
front of them. So our life in the future looks, like pretty good, unless aliens from outer
space invade us, then we are all doomed. In the weantime I have to get back to my reading ,
spelling and such exciting subjects as that. "I wonder what life will be like in the
future" as Spock would say."We'll have life, but not as we know it"
