Formula Ford Zetec is in its third year in Ireland. Last year the championship was so hotly contested that the result was a three way tie. This year we are looking forward to the same kind of close racing and competitive spirit. The grids in Ireland have been very strong with an average of twenty car grids. To those of you who don't know what Formula Ford Zetec is let me explain: All of the cars in the series must run a Ford Zetec 1800cc Engine such as the one in the Ford Escort XR3i. The chassis can be constructed by any manufacturer once it conforms to the standards set down by the Governing body. They are open wheel racing cars and use slick, thread-less, tyres. On average the races at Mondello are 15 laps and this year there are Ten rounds in the series with the ability to drop to rounds to count toward the championship. One of the rounds this year will be at Prembrey Racing Circuit in Wales a return for the Boys from Mondello after last years' roaring success. |
