The Lamberts of CastleLambert
Castle Lambert was once called Aghrim
or Aughrim Park. It means the good land on the hilltop. In Cromwell's time
it was owned by Sr. Richard Blake and Sr. Thomas Robuck. The Lamberts of
Aggard bought it from the Blakes of Corbally Castle who had become indebted
to them in 1742. The sale was agreed in 1756. We had Thomas, his son Walter
and his sons Thomas Eyre and Giles Eyre in Castle Lambert. They left about
1892 and afterwards came Trousdell, Taylor and Adamson.
Our teacher interviewed some
people from Castle Lambert and they have promised to help with the publication
of a book on the area. Tommy Kelly gave him a video and some audio tapes
of old people telling stories of their youth and the land owners of their
time. These will be of great use.
We have maps of the estate from
1855 and 1892 and we even have one from 1650 and it is hoped they can be
reproduced in the new book to be published next year.

Trowell.
