Euonymus

Evonymus

Spontaneous everywhere, apart from Africa and South America, it is a wide genus including evergreen and deciduous shrubs and small trees. The deciduous species offer bright coloured foliage and fruits in autumn. The most impressive species is Euonymus alatus with leaves getting pink-purple and little orange fruits in the underside of the branches. The wavy bark shows strange corky "wings". Other two species, ideal for bonsai growing, are: E. europaeus, European Euonymus, producing interesting scarlet capsules and E. sieboldianus, Japanese Euonymus, with light green flowers, white-rosy fruits and red seeds.
