St John's Point, May 2003
The Lighthouse at St John's Pt.
The Lighthouse at St. John's Pt.

Galway SAC went to St. John's Pt., Donegal, for the May Bank Holiday, 2003. Divers started arriving on Thursday evening. The first dive was just a group of two, on thursday evening, from the steps near the lighthouse. There was five however in attendance at the 'debrief' in McIntyre's, Dunkineely.
Boats were launched at the beach on friday morning,  with two dives, Black Rk., and Portnagh Rk. Dinner was fish and chips at Melly's, Killibegs. Most of the group arrived Friday evening/night. Weather was not as good on Saturday, with stiff SW wind building as well as heavy rain. With the sea too rough for boats, the divers headed for the lighthose again. By the afternoon, it was decided to skip the second dive as 'the steps' area was looking like a washing machine.  Everything settled down again for Sunday, with dives at Black Rock, Portnagh Rock and Skuddagh Rock. In general the diving was excellent with very good viz and lots of fish to see.
Only a few had energy enough to do the final monday morning dive, and it was time for home. Another good weekend away for the
club.
