Chinese Cinderella by Hannah |
When
Adeline's mother dies giving birth to her, the family consider Adeline bad luck
and she is made to feel unwanted all her life. Chinese Cinderella is my
favourite book because it is the best book I ever read. It is very sad, but it
is great when she proves her worthiness. My favourite part is when she says "Tell me what my real Mama looked like. I can't picture her face". |
||
The Giggler Treatment by Hannah |
I did a
book review on "The Giggler Treatment" by Roddy Doyle. I thought the book was
very creative. The story was about little creatures who mind children. Every
time the children's parents punished them, the gigglers would put dog poo where
the parents were walking. I would love to meet Roddy Doyle. I would ask him
where he got his ideas from. "The Giggler Treatment" is very funny. I would strongly recommend this book to all age groups. So if you want a good laugh read "The Giggler Treatment" by Roddy Doyle. |
||
Darrell goes to Malory Towers by Stacey |
My favourite book is
very old. It is a new version of the old book "Darrell goes to Malory Towers."
This is my favourite book because it is comedy drama and all of the other stuff. . I think this is a great book beacause it is about a young girl and her school life. The best part in this story is when Darrell's worst enemy Gwendillen gets into trouble for pulling a prank and blaming it on Darrell. The main character is Darell. It is written by Enid Blyton. I have another three books by her. She is a great writer. If I was to meet Enid I would ask her how she got such a creative mind. My mam used to read these books. |
||
The Secret Garden by Sophie |
The
Secret Garden is my favourite book because it is about Mary Lennox. Her parents
have died and a housekeeper has brought her back from India to live in her
uncle's great, lonely house on the moor. She is miserable and disagreeable
until one day she discovers a hidden door to a secret garden. The house has ten gardens, but one of them is locked because her uncle's wife used to go into it every day to plant flowers and carve statues out of bushes. Mary makes friends with a gardener and a robin redbreast. One day after a storm she finds a key, maybe it's the key to the secret garden |
||
Danny by Sophie |
My story is about Jess. She is eighteen years old and has decided to go to France for a year's adventures. On the evening before the departure, her family gathers for a celebration at which family secrets, love stories and ghost stories are shared. Jess remembers the short life of her beloved brother Danny. My favourite character is Jess because she had good ideas. Everybody thought Jess killed Danny when he was born. I would like to know who really killed Danny.
The Bad Beginning by Sinéad M |
This is my favourite
book, written by Lemony Snicknet. I thought it was very good. It is about three children - Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire - who find out their parents died in a terrible fire and their enormous house got burnt to the ground. The children are devastated. They are left a fortune but they can't get it until they're sixteen. They are sent to their relative, Count Olaf, who is mean, selfish, greedy and a repulsive villain. From the first day they arrive he makes them cook, clean and only gives them cold porridge for breakfast. But there is one thing that Count Olaf wants their fortune. The only way he can get that fortune is to be a part of the family. He has a plan I thought the book would be suitable for 9 - 13 year olds. I thought this book was very good and exciting. I would definitely read more of these books. Lemony Sniket has published 7 books. Read on and find out what happens to the children. |
||
Harry Potter by Paul |
My
favourite book is "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." I like this book best because you find out all about Harry's past and because of the Dementors. It is also very funny when Harry blows up his Aunt Marge. I think the film will be very good. |
||
Diary of a Killer Cat by Paul |
I thought
that the cat's diary, by Anne Fine, was a very funny book. The best part was
when the cat was in the vet's. I thought the plot was very funny because
Thumper was already dead. If I had been in the same situation I would probably
do the same thing. I felt sorry for the cat when his owner nailed up the cat
flap. I liked this story a lot because it was very funny and you never knew
what would happen next. I would rate this book ten out of ten. |
||
The Vile Village by Karl |
The Vile
Village, a series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket. This is a series of
books. There are seven so far. This story is about the seventh book. It is
about three children whose parents died in a terrible fire. Their names are
Violet, Sunny and Klaus. While they were on a beach this fire had happened.
Their parents left an enormous fortune, the children cannot possess this money
until Violet comes of age. Being the eldest Violet looks out for her siblings.
Meanwhile a horrible man by the name of Count Olaf is trying constantly to
steal this money. In every book he is in disguise. In the first book Count Olaf
tries to marry Violet without her realizing it but the children are too clever.
I strongly recommend that anybody should read these stories. They are very
good. |
||
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Leona |
A Series
of Unfortunate Events is a book aboout three children Voilet, Klaus and Sunny
whose parents died in a fire. The three children are sent to live with their
third cousin four times removed, Count Olaf. Count Olaf is sort of an actor.
His friends are weird looking and are evil and so is he. Voilet, Klaus and
Sunny's parents left them a big fortune and Count Olaf really wants it. He
makes a plan and to pretend to marry Voilet for their fortune. Voilet figures
out his plan and instead of signing her name on the marriage forms with her
right hand she signs them with her left hand. Count Olaf thinks he is married
to her and shouts out his evil plan to everyone at the theatre. Then Voilet
tells them that she is not married to him because of her signature. Count Olaf
hears this and runs away when someone turns off the lights. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Unfortunate Events series. |
||
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by Enda |
This is the fourth
book in the series written by J.K. Rowlings series and is by far the best in
the series and some argue the best book ever. It is about a boy who attends a school for wizards. In the book there is a competition with three tasks. The series is about a boy, Harry, who is forced to live with his evil aunt and uncle when his parents are killed by an evil wizard. Harry discovers he is a wizard on his twelfth birthday and goes off to a school for witchcraft and wizardry. There he meets two friends Ron and Hermione. The books before Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are also brilliant, but the fourth is the best of all. I look forward to the rest of the series, which I hope, will be just as good as this amazing book written by a very talented and creative author. I like the book because it is a long adventure and never gets boring at all. |
||
Chinese Cinderella by Sinéad B |
I think
Chinese Cinderella is sad, happy and badly treated and throughout the book she
is trying to get the attention of her father. The only people who like her are
her friends at school, Aunt Baba And her grandfather Ye Ye. She is sent to a
boarding school. I forgot to say that her mam died at her birth and her
stepmother is horrible. 10 out of 10. More people should read it. |
||
The Tudor Queen by Máire |
This is a
historical story that took place in London in 1501 - 1513. Catherine of Aragon
in Spain journeys to England to marry the heir to the throne, Henry VIII, and
become Queen of England. At first she was objected to by Henry VII, but finally she gets her way. Henry VIII divorced her twenty years later and married five different women after that. He became known as Henry of the six wives. In 1536 Catherine died and it was rumoured that Anne Boyleyn, Henry VIII's second wife, poisoned her, but there was no evidence that it was true. Catherine had been a very popular queen and so was her daughter, Mary. I really enjoyed this book because it was interesting, true and I was learning history. |
||
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by Máire |
Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire was my favourite out of the first four Harry
Potter books, if not my favourite of all books. The main reasons I liked and
preferred this book were because it was longer, there was much more excitement
in it and there was a lot of new characters in it. Victor Krum was my favourite out of the new characters. He appears in the story because he is a professional Quidditch player (a sport played on brooms) and also because he is a contestant in the Triwizard Tournament. My favourite part in the story was when Harry faces his first task of the tournament and has to challenge his opponent, a dragon. J.K. Rowling was the auther of this book. She lives in London, England. It took her four years to make the first Harry Potter book alone. It was an excellent story, it was very funny and it was a great book overall. I would recommend it for 10-15 year olds and I would give it 10 out of 10. |
||
No Peace for Amelia by Sarah |
I have
many favourite books, but the one I have picked is "No Peace for Amelia" by
Siobhán Parkinson. She is an Irish writer. The book is set in Dublin in 1916. World War I is two years old. Many Irishmen have joined up and died. Ireland is still ruled by the United Kingdom. "No Peace for Amelia" is the second book. In the first her father goes bankrupt and they have to loose their maid Mary Ann, who Amelia is close to. In the second book her family is a little better off and have hired Mary Ann again. Amelia has a boyfriend called Frederick. He later joins the army. Mary Ann's brother is involved in the Rising and turns up on their doorstep, hurt. I enjoyed this book because it is set in Dublin and I recognized some of the places. It is full of drama, danger and trouble. I recommend this book, but first you must read the first book. Ten out of ten. |
||
The Last Polar Bears by Nicola |
My book
is called "The Last Polar Bears". I picked it because I thought it was
interesting. This is what it is about. A grandfather is off on an expedition to the North Pole to find the last polar bears. With him goes Roo - a dog - and a golfbag full of their equipment. They set sail on a ship "Unsinkable" |
||
Vicky Angel by Leona |
Vicky
Angel is my favourite book because it starts sad and ends happy. The main
characters are Vicky and Jade. Vickey is a sparkey girl who doesn't let a small
thing like being dead stop her from living life to the full. Jade is quiet and
is not into as many things like Vicky. The author is Jacqueline Wilson. I have read about ten of her books, but this was the best. |
||
Collins Gem Book about Dogs by Leon |
This is
my favourite book because it is the only book I know that has taught me so much
about dogs. Another reason I liked it was it gave little real life pictures of over 200 dogs. It told you how long every dog would live and explained what country it came from. It describes its character, what it was bred for and the year it was bred. |
||
Diary of a Killer Cat by Leon |
I thought
it was very funny and I also thought it was the funniest book I ever read. It
had a good story and it was very funny when the cat kept trying to eat all the
animals. I also think the author put a lot of thought into what she wrote.
I thought the funniest part of the story was when the cat was at the vet and when he started licking his lips when he was looking at the gerbil. I also liked the bit when the rabbit went missing and was filthy and came back as clean as anything. It has a very good ending. |
||
Diary of a Killer Cat by Vincent |
The
funniest thing about this story was the cat, because he kept killing animals. I
felt sorry for the cat because he was accused of killing the Rabbit Thumper.
My favourite part in the story was when Tubes gave out about how much effort he had to do to get the rat in the cat flap. I was amazed when Thumper already had died before Tubes had found him. I would recommend this look to all classes because it is a very simple book to enjoy. |
||
Dustbin Baby by Laura C |
The "Dustbin Baby" is a book by Jacqueline Wilson. It is a good book because it is all about her life after she was abandoned in a dustbin. She has spent most of her life in foster homes. At the moment she is with a foster mother she likes very much, but has to wonder about her mother. She went looking for her but does not find her. But she does find the man who found her in the dustbin.
Bed and Breakfast Star by Stephanie |
This book is called
the Bed and Breakfast star. It's about a girl who has to keep on moving house
because her mam's boyfriend Max keeps loosing his job and has to move to
different towns. Until they move into the ' O A L H T L' which is really called
the 'RYOAL HOTEL' with letters missing but it is more like a dump .Her dream is
to be on T.V or to tell jokes. There is a fire in the hotel and she goes around
waking everyone up and saved all their lives. When everyone gets outside the
hotel Elsa gets to go on T.V because the news crew was there and she had to
tell what happened but she just can't stop telling jokes. Her name was Elsa she had 1 brother called Hank and 1 sister called Pippa. I liked the book. It was a good book. It was written by Jacqueline Wilson. Other books she wrote are The Suitcase Kid, Buried Alive, Secrets and loads more... |
||
Dustbin Baby by Laura |
The
Dustbin Baby is about a girl called April who when she was only a few minutes
old was dumped in a dustbin by her young mum and has been shifted from house to
house since her foster mum commited suicide in the crimson bath which left a
mark on April for the rest of her life. On her 14th birthday she goes looking
for her childhood friend and memories. It is sad, but jokes occur every so often and I would recommend this for 11+. Jacqueline Wison is a mastermind and I love all her books which include Tracy Beaker 1and 2, Bad Girls, The Suitcase Kid, Double Act, Sleepovers, and for younger readers , the Werepuppy and others in that triligy. |
||
Welcome to Thompson Park by Patrick |
This book review is about a girl called Gilly Hopkins, whose life has been one foster home after another. People who take part in this story are her social worker Miss Ellis, her new foster mother Maime Trotter, also her son William Ernest. It was funny.
The Twits by Katie |
The story is about
two twins who are very dirty and smelly. One of them has a beard and every time
he eats the food gets stuck in it and he eats it the next day. Every Thursday
they would put glue on the tree so they can catch all kinds of birds to make a
pie for lunch. They also have monkeys in a little cage in their house, but one
day the monkeys get out and get pay back. It's a great book and I enjoyed reading it. I am in the middle of reading the BFG and so far it seems very exciting. I am going to continue reading more of Roald Dahl's books. So far I have read The Magic Finger, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Witches, George's Marvelous mediences and others... |
||
Dear Diary by Susan |
Dear Diary by Claire Hennessy is about 5 friends. The diary is split up into 5 sections. Each section is about what each person writes. The book has some funny, sad, and emotional parts. They write about boyfriends, friends, slumber-parties and other life crises. They write in it like a diary too. It has a very good story line to it. It's a very good book for girls around 11, 12, 13. I would recommend it for that age group. The author was only 13 when she wrote it. It was published a year later. She has written 2 books since that and I would recommend them too.
School for Bad Kids by Philomena |
I think
that the book is brilliant, it is funny. It would be good for people in fourth
class and fifth class. It rhymes when it says Lying Lizzie had to write: I must not lie and not even in bed. If you are going to pick a book you should pick this book it is excellent , you would love this book. My favourite person is Mrs Sharple because she is funny, good. |
||
Diary of a Killer Cat by Nicola |
What I thought of the story: the story was so funny about all the things that the cat was thinking and the parents too. The story reminds me of when my cat was alive - all the things she brought home like rabbits, rats, mice and birds. The funniest thing about this story is the Gerbil. I would be interested to read more of her books because they are so funny and very interesting. Didn't understand why the little girl kept on crying.
Diary of a Killer Cat by Daniel |
I didn't
understand
The Girl. I would like to know What happened after. I was shocked by the end. I was puzzled when the girl cried all the time. This story is similar cat and the mouse. I was excited when the story ended. As I read I felt sorry for the rabbit for the rabbit who got dug up. |
||
Voyage on the Great Titanic by Sarah |
When I read "Voyage
on the Great Titanic. The Diary of Margaret Anne Brady, 1912" I really enjoyed
it. It's about a girl, Margaret Anne Brady. She starts off in an orphanage
until a lady, Mrs. Corsairs, is going to America and wants company on her
voyage. Margaret has a brother in America and goes with her. As you know the Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks. The diary is just the few days before the voyage and the few days on the voyage. I really enjoyed this book because I learnt what it was like to be on the Titanic. I enjoyed it the first and second time I read it. It's also a real life story. I give it 10/10. |
||
Vampire Mountain by Aaron |
The book is really interesting. It's about these two men who are turned to the dark side [vampire]. They're looking for the nest. The main characters in the story are Mr Crpply and Mr Tall. The most interesting aspect of the story is the setting. I didn't like the story because of the way it finished [to be continued in part four]. I have part three.
The Haunting of Alice Fairlie by Sinéad B |
I haven't read all the book, but it is very good.I don't know or I haven't read any books by Eileen Dunlop, so it's a change. Alice's parents die in a plane crash. She goes to live with her sister Shirley and her cat Sooty (but in the end she runs away). The weird thing is that she keeps seeing things like: a war memorial across the road, a red-haired girl that haunts the stairs and she's hearing people singing. The question is: What happened to Goldie's Academy School? Why is Alice seeing and hearing things? Why won't Gran come over? What's wrong with the red-haired girl? Well, you'll only find out if you read it! 10/10 a brilliant book, recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery.
