Irish Open Email Final

The 1st Irish Email Open was a two-stage event played in 1999-2000, run by Alasdair Alexander and sponsored by Chess Mail, The winner was Steve Burns who outdistanced many better-known names with a fine score of 6/8 in the Final. Twenty players played in 4 preliminary groups with the top two in each reaching the final.

Steve has kindly annotated one of his games from the event for us. You can play through it using Palview3 and download it in PGN!

Plans for a second event to start in the autumn of 2002 are in abyeance, due to the need for somebody to run the tournament. If you are interested in doing this, please contact one of the ICCA committee.

ICCA is the 32-county governing body organising correspondence chess activities for Irish players living at home or abroad. A non-profit-making organisation, we run the national championship, Irish teams and other activities. We are affiliated to ICCF and the Irish Chess Union (which controls "over-the-board" chess here).
