What could hunter-gatherer societies possibly have in common with the Religious Society of Friends? In his article, Biological Quakerism, found in our Library Section, Jim Wingate makes some surprising observations and draws some interesting conclusions regarding the size and dynamics of Quaker groupings.

Many Friends in Ireland will no doubt remember Jim Wingate. Jim, initially touring Ireland as a member of London YM’s Quaker Peace Action Caravan, later returned to live in Co. Cork, and subsequently joined Cork Meeting. One of Jim’s major contributions to the life of the Society in Ireland was assisting for a number of years with the organising of Junior Yearly Meeting. But further afield, Jim has founded The Future in Our Hands, UK and has worked in reconciliation in Israel as well as Ireland. His book How to Be a Peace-full Teacher brings the techniques of Gandhi and Martin Luther King into action in the classroom. Jim has been advisor to the Spanish and Israeli governments on educational reform. His latest book is Knowing Me Knowing You., teacher self-development and learner training. Now living in Wales, Jim is a member of Aberystwyth Meeting. Tel/fax 0044 (0) 1970 890628.
