The Final Cut is proud to present the opinionated, the verbose, the one and only Rapier. Long may he review. ALL HAIL....

Well, at last it has come to reviewing time and my mind still reels from the explosive experience I witnessed not once, but twice and I intend going again before the week is out to get yet another mind blowing fix of this ultra cool sci-fi.

Shot on location in Sydney The Matrix may be described by mere words, but I feel that they are not enough to capture this truly engrossing movie. "Unfortunately no one can be told what the matrix is, you have to see it for yourself". When leaving this visual feast you are left drooling for more. Then you will go and see it again and again just like me and finally The Matrix will have you.

For those of you who watch 'Home and Away' you may recognize a familiar face ('Mouse'). You don't see much of Mouse but he adds a little humour to the whole mind boggling escapade that is the matrix, at the 'mess' table. Needed humour I may add even just to sigh a relief for a split second before being thrown back into the world of fast moving, high tension action. Keanu Reeves I must say (for the first time for me) is stunning. It seems as though he was born for this role. He plays the role of Thomas (neo) Anderson, a hacker who feels there is something more to life and so is always after a man called Morpheus (Fishburne) who is the leader of a group of rebels, rebels against the AI (artificial intelligence). Don't worry it will all make sense once you see the movie. Anderson seeks Morpheus for an answer to his questions. 'Morpheus', a name heard of only in rumours and arcane whispers. Danger is involved yet Anderson will not stop his secret search. Anderson is sort of an iconoclastic and Morpheus knows it.

Sweet yet deadly Trinity(Carrie Anne Moss),boiling over with ebullience, Leather clad and cool (yet again(I think I'll actually use the term 'future super cool' form now on, the word 'cool' just doesn't seem to do it))adds some sort of perfection to the movie. Her steel like composure and bullshit approach causes you to instantly become relied on her. She seems to always be in control. You see her in the beginning and realize just how good a movie you are in for.

Now on to those people, what are their name again oh yeah, The Wachowski Brothers (Andy and Larry). Never heard of before this film but now they have been put on the map …no wait… scrap that, they own a large chunk of the map. They sought out cutting edge camera technology for the matrix. The technique used is known as "flo-mo", whereby an object in motion is strangely frozen while the camera miraculously spins around it as if time is still in progress but gravity doesn't exist One things for sure, it looks bloody nice. Mind-blowingly futuristic which is exactly what the Wachowskis want to achieve. Not only does this movie have style but it has content, the director Larry and andy spent around two years developing the plot and script so that the audience would appreciate and understand The Matrix. As for the kung fu fighting, well, I've done jujitsu in my time and seen many strange moves but my good dear loving God in high heaven, these fight scenes are nothing short of incredible. The use of 'flo-mo' combined with the fact that they are in a some sort of virtual reality, produces amazing, stupendously exhilarating, drool-productive fight sequences. Quite simply, ten months ago this movie would not be possible.

A word of warning: If when drinking some beverage an action scene appears on screen Do NOT try and replace the beverage into that small beverage holder by your right arm as you may risk dropping or loosing grip of it, or even worse, if you take your eyes from the big screen ….HUH! I never said that.
