Eposide 1 Trailer
8/5/99
Up to this point The Final Cut has stayed well away from the always breaking news of The Phantom Menace. We believe that there are enough sites out there dedicated to TPM to keep everybody happy for some time to come.
But now the film has opened to the lucky few in America and nervious reactions are filtering out. Most of which have declared that the film is a disappointment to the hardcore fans. That we see too little of some great characters and the script was a bit too kiddie.
Well Shator and I have spent the last few days analysing their reactions and have come to a sound conculision.
These people have adored and cherished the Star Wars myth all there lives, and back in 1993 when the dream of more films being made became a reality, their imaginations soared and they fantistised of the amazing film that would be on the screen. The fact is, no matter how good this film is, it will always going to disappoint these people the first time they see it. No Star Wars film will ever be as good as they imagine it should be.
Also it must be watched in the view that it is Chapter 1 of a 6 part story. This is just a sixth of the whole thing. If Star Wars came out and Emipre Strikes Back and Return Of the Jedi were never made, it would have vanished with the passing of time. But it didn't because of it's sequels. And the prequels will be the same.
And to those who think the film is too childish. Well, remember A New Hope, remember how much fun it was, remember all the goodies and badies. Is was this childishness that captured the world twenty years ago and it was it's sequels that made it so much more. And thats just what Lucas is doing with this film, he said it himself. He is capturing a whole new generation of Star Wars fans with a fun exciting movie that has a happy ending (???????).
And to finish off this lecture on a film i haven't even seen yet. I must say that to really enjoy yourself during this film, to have the hairs stand on the back of your neck and to go back and see it 5 or 6 more times, you must become that 5 or 10 year old you were back in 1977, you must believe that there is sound in space, you must believe that no blood will pump from your wrist when you get your hand sliced off Darth Vader. But most of all, you must believe in the Force.
