Guest Lecture:
Irish Contributions to the Science of Aerosols
by
Dr. Tom O'Connor

Public awareness of Ireland's contribution to the world's scientific and technological heritage is much less known than to the world's literature. The contributions to the science of aerosols have been very significant and these will be outlined in this talk. Aerosols, defined as small liquid or solid particles suspended in air, are of considerable interest in meteorology for their role in cloud physics, the radiation balance in the atmosphere, atmospheric electricity and air pollution.
