Our School.
The name of my parish is Ardrahan. It gets its name from two Irish words Ard meaning high and Rath meaning ringfort. The high ringfort surrounds the old Norman castle built near the village. In the parish lies a small village called Labane and this is the name of my school. Labane gets its name from the word Leadhán which means White Day.
Labane NS is situated on the main Galway Limerick road in the south of the county Galway. Galway Bay lies a few miles to the west. From my school you see the Slieve Aughty Mountains which rise to the east.
In Labane N.S we have 3 teachers namely Mrs Bernadette Moylan, Fidelma Hughes and Micheal Burke. They teach 72 pupils. Bernadette, Fidelma, and Micheal have worked very hard for the 72 pupils of Labane.
We start school at 9. 30 am and finish at 3. 00 everyday. At break time we play lots of different games such as hurling, football and soccer. For the last 6 years in hurling we have been in County Championships. We have won 3 times 97, 98, and 99. The boys and girls are hoping to do very well this year. Micheal Burke, our principal hurls with us during lunch time. The team colours of Labane are white and blue.
