Lahardane got their under-17 league campaign off to a winning start in wet conditions at Breaffy.

Breaffy started the better and led 3-2 within twenty minutes after some uncertainty in the Lahardane defence.

Eventually the Nephin-siders began to claw their way back and points by Declan Leonard (3), Vinnie Cawley (3) and Tom Jordan (1) and a fine goal by Anthony Irwin brought the winners within one point of the leaders by the interval.

Breaffy again started the better to score two points inside three minutes, but some fine defensive play by Meryn Marley, Anthony McDermott, Adrian Marley and Simon Rowan weathered the Breaffy storm.

Shane Blake and Stephen Jordan quickly took command at midfield.

The winners half-forward line of Leonard, Jordan and Cawley were in magnificent form, contributing 1-13 of the side's total.

Breaffy were best served by Sean McCormack, Mark Fahy and Martin McNicholas.
