Lahardane crown outstanding year

Resurgent Lahardane completed a very successful year by taking the North Mayo under-21 'B' football title at Knockmore on Sunday, to leave them celebrating a victory in all age groups this season.

Even allowing for the terrible wind and rain in the first half, the standard of football was very poor, reflected in the 0-2 to 0-1 scoreline in favour of Moygownagh at the interval.

Each side kicked a litany of wides in the opening half but in the second period Lahardane dominated the trend. A Declan Leonard goal, from a penalty he had earned himself after taking a pass from Stephen Jordan, left the winners 1-4 to 0-2 ahead.

Lahardane were reduced in playing numbers when a player was sent off but they were to overcome that mini-crisis to add on a further five points to just one reply from Moygownagh.
