Playing with the assistance of a strong wind, visitors Lahardane notched up some fine points through Tom Cawley and full back Francis Bryan, but it was the preverbial long shot from Shane Blake which resulted in a goal to bring Lahardane's first half total to 1-6.Against that, Belmullet notched up 2-2, the first goal coming from a rebound penalty save.

It looked ominous when Lahardane's one point lead went after the homeside's first attack on the restart. But with half-backs alertness and the workrate of James Gillespie and Shane Blake at midfield, the Lahardane attack cut through for goals by Noel Garrett, Declan Leonard and John Rowland to give them a well deserved ten points winning margin.
