Dangan Community Centre, Kilmore

The community centre was opened in 1988. Albert Reynolds T.D. opened the centre on the 8th of December 1988. The local people fundraised the money for the centre by having raffles, draws, bazaars and tea parties. The local people were employed by F.A.S. to build the centre. Construction started in May 1986.The Centre was twelve years old in 2000. Local builders like Brendan Bourke chipped in to make the centre. There is a kitchen, hall and shower facilities in the centre. The V.E.C. funded a beginner's computers course. Teagasc, the farmer's association, had a rural development course. The G.A.A. president, Joe Mc Donagh, visited the centre on his tour of Connacht. The Dangan School reunion celebrations were held there. Mary McAleese, the National President made her speech in the hall for the celebrations. I train for football there. I used to go to dancing classes but I no longer go to the classes. Plays and meetings are held in the centre.
