Charles Bianconi was an Italian immigrant .In 1809 Bianconi set up his own business going from Co. Tipperary to Co.Clare. Then Bianconi bought a cart and soon he was travelling the countryside .Bianconi ran a royal mail service .He brought people from place to place and he charged the people 1 penny 1 mile. When it started to rain Bianconi had a cover to keep the rain from hitting the people. In the morning Bianconi left Co. Dublin at 5 minutes before 6.Bianconi stopped in 3 of our royal post-offices that were in Dromod, Drumsna and Jamestown . Bianconi had his own factory where he built his coaches some of the coaches were two wheeler coaches but from 1833 onwards Bianconi mostly built 4 wheeler coaches which were called long cars. By 1845 Bianconi had cars running to and from all the principal towns in Ireland.
