Turlough O Carolan

Turlough O Carolan (1670-1738) was a frequent visitor to Kiltubrid. Some of his friends were the Reynolds family of Letterfine. As a token of his friendship, he composed Sheebeg Sheemore. He also composed the Lamberts of Letterfine for another local family. Laheen was one of the places that Turlogh visited. His friend Planxty Peyton lived there. On a clear day from the top of Sheebeg, you can see the beautiful lakes and the counties of Roscommon, Sligo, Longford and Cavan. Among the most beautiful lakes is Lough Scur which is at the foot of Sheebeg. He is buried in Keadue Co. Roscommon
