Over 600 people took part in the protest against proposed maternity cuts in Dublin today. Speakers such as Denise Livingstone of the Monaghan baby tragedy and Kathy Sinnott addressed the crowd, who marched to Government buildings from the Garden of Remembrance on Parnell Square.

A HEAVILY pregnant woman who sought treatment for bleeding at the National Maternity Hospital was refused a scan unless she abandoned plans for a homebirth.
Laura Burrell, 40, who had planned a homebirth with an independent midwife, claims Holles Street refused to treat her last week unless she transferred her care from her midwife to the hospital.
Ms Burrell, originally from South Africa, but now living in Shankill, Co. Dublin, went to the hospital on the advice of her midwife after experiencing some bleeding when she was almost full-term....READ

The National Maternity Hospital at Holles Street, has warned that it may have to turn patients away until a midwifery crisis in the major Dublin maternity hospitals is addressed.

The shortage was caused by the college’s decision to no longer recognize the hospital as a training hospital for Anesthetist's. Local independent TD Paudge Connolly said this was because of the poor case mix on offer to junior doctors, particularly since the closure of the hospital’s maternity unit last year
