The Vogler String Quartet came to our school and three other schools joined
us to hear them play.
On Friday Bridget O Connell, a local artist, came to our school and taught us the Ogham alphabet.
We also made our own books and steeped them in water and tea
bags to make them look ancient.
Updates from Andy, Ed, & Paddy on their Halcyon Voyage
around the world:
"Thanks for your email - its wonderful to think of you checking
up on our progress"
"The weather was fairly rough for a coupe of days - it got up to
force 7 one night but we all managed fine and even managed to cook with the boat
bouncing up and down in the waves - imagine trying to cook on a roller coaster
and you'll get the idea"
"We're not going to use fuel as its expensive - we're going to
rely on the wind for our fuel - its free and doesn't pollute the environment
which is very important to us".
"We haven't seen any shark yet but we have seen lots of dolphins
- they followed us for ages across the Atlantic - they're really beautiful and
seem to love boats"
"I'm doing the cooking and yes I'm giving the lads a good
variety to keep us all fit and healthy though its not very easy at sea - makes
it mor fun though. I made pasta dishes and different stews and soups - sometimes
with tuna as it is quite cheap - otherwise I use root vegetables because they
last a long time out at sea - other stuff would mouldy."
"Yes, we do have to stay awake all the time - we do shifts of
three hours each but it is hard work and we're all quite tired after our first
voyage - its beautiful to see the sun rise out at sea though and well worth it".
