Did you know...?
- The first Olympic games were held in
776 B.C. in the city of Olympia, hence the name.
- Oxen were sacrificed to the Greek gods
before the games to bring the competitors luck.
- The Greeks used to compete naked!!
- Woman were not allowed to compete in
the games, but there was a special competition for unmarried women!
- The events included sprinting,
race-in-armour, pentathlon (penta means five in Greek), boxing, wrestling, horse
racing and chariot racing.
