Did you know...?

• The first Olympic games were held in 776 B.C. in the city of Olympia, hence the name.

• Oxen were sacrificed to the Greek gods before the games to bring the competitors luck.

• The Greeks used to compete naked!!

• Woman were not allowed to compete in the games, but there was a special competition for unmarried women!

• The events included sprinting, race-in-armour, pentathlon (penta means five in Greek), boxing, wrestling, horse racing and chariot racing.
