Silver for Sonia by Leanne Today
we were watching
Sonia running
and she
got a silver
medal she was way behind at
first and
at the last lap she
caught up. When she was running she lost concentration. She was thinking about
running the ten thousand metres. She
did very well
and if she does run the ten thousand metres I hope she does
very well.

Today
in Sydney the first female Irish athlete has won a silver medal.
Her name is Sonia O'Sullivan.
She has been training for four years.
She is really happy but a bit sad.
She doesn't know if she is going to laugh or cry.
She was so close to coming first. |

On 25/9/00, in Sydney, the first ever Irish woman won a silver medal for running. Sonia must be very proud of herself. But she was so close to gold. She must be wrecked after running 12 1/2 laps which is equal to 5000 m. At the start of the race she was very near the back. Coming to the last 3 laps she made her move. We are all very proud of her. |

Olympic record. In third
place was an Ethiopian girl. 12.5
laps, 5,000 metres .
They
must have been very tired as they crossed that winning line.
Sonia almost lost concentration on the eighth lap.
But luckily she regained concentration and confidence and came in
second. |
