The name derives from St. Finbarr, who had a Monastery on the Holy Island in the 6th Century. Reilig Ghobnatan - Baile Mhúirne
A place of pilgrimage and prayer for generations. St. Gobnait, the patron saint of Baile Mhúirne, built her Church here. Stories of her feats abound, from the Nine White Deer to trained bees. Mass is celebrated here on her Feast Day, 11th February.
