The All Ireland Final
On Sunday September 27th 1998, Galway made history by winning the All Ireland Final for the first time in 32 years when they beat Kildare. Galway were first to score with a point from Padraic Joyce but Kildare led at half time. In the second half Galway moved into a higher gear and Padraic Joyce scored a fantastic goal. Galway added more points and stayed ahead of Kildare all the way. The final score was Galway 1-14 Kildare 1-10. So the long wait since 1966 was finally over and Sam Maguire came West to Galway. Ray Silke was presented with the cup. The Sam Maguire came to our school on Friday October 16th. It was brought around to all the classes by Robin Doyle, a passed pupil of our school who was a sub on the day.
