The Vikings were descended from a tribe of people who moved to Scandinavia about four thousand years ago. This terrtory has now become the countries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The Viking boundries often changed. A clever king could keep and take control of many tiny kingdoms through waging war or making agreements with neighbouring rulers. A new king had to have a lot of support and popularity with all his people. The Vikings were the most powerful people of the Early Ages.
