What is the Euro ? The Euro is the single currency that the Economic Monetary Union (E.M.U.) are planning to introduce.

When will it be introduced ? On the 1st of January 1999 the Eurowill be introduced although the general public will not use or even see the Euro coins or notes until the year 2002 . This is stage 3 of the Economic and Monetary Union (E.M.U.)

Preparation of the countries to join the Euro

Eleven European countries will lock their currencies together to form the new single currency for Europe . The national currencies of all eleven countries will no longer exist in their own right . A conversion rate against the Euro will be set and in time all the money will be converted . These national currencies will no longer be legal tender in July 2002 .
