As a result of experience in Poland greater protection was demanded and from November 1940 the frontal armour of these tanks was increased to 50mm by riveting two 25mm plates together on all frontal surfaces.The armour on the turret sides and on the upper sides of the fighting compartment was also increased.New visors Sehklappe 50 (Observation Port 50) were fitted for driver and operator , riveting was reduced on frontal plates and the turret machine-gun ball mount was located internally.All models of the Pz Kpfw 38(t) served in Russia from July 1941.The Ausf D , E and F served mainly with the more recently formed 12th , 19th and 20th Panzer Divisions as well as with the 7th and 8th Panzer Divisions which were the first divisions to be equipped with these tanks.
