The Sd Kfz 233 was developed to give the armored reconnaissance squadron a weapon capable of engaging enemy armour and area targets.The order was issued to build 115 Sd Kfz 233 , completing the Sd Kfz 263 order.
The Sd Kfz 233 was an altered Sd Kfz 231 design with the turret removed , the superstructure roof open and the right side of the superstructure front cut away to mount the 75mm Howitzer.
Issued as a platoon of six Sd Kfz 233 to the Panzerspähwagen squadrons of the Aufklärungs battalions detachments.Well liked by the reconnaissance troops the Sd Kfz 233 saw service on all major fronts until the end of the war.
