Westwood House Hotel

Presentation Piece 6

Picture of An Taibhdhearc piece plus logo

This (above) is one picture, in a series of seven pieces, commissioned for a newly refurbished Galway hotel. The series of pieces features a biography of famous families and persons associated with the locality. In this instance, The Taibhdhearc Theatre, is profiled (see theatre logo alongside title, above).

Italic calligraphy was used for the body text, and half uncial style for the title. Gold foil was also used as decoration in the title (above). Gouache was used for the maroon-coloured (maroon is the official colour of Galway city) title and illustration. This piece was written on cream Aquarelle Arches paper (300 g/m²), and measured approximately 56cm x 75cm, and has a deckle edge all round (see sample above, left-hand edge).

Picture of Celtic motif hand-painted onto stage curtains

A celtic motif is also depicted in this work. This was hand-painted in gold onto the black velvet stage curtains by the theatre’s original Stage Director, Micheál MacLíammóir, and is still in use today!
