Summary of Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith's Primary Valuation

Preamble

The main census substitutes for the nineteenth century are the Tithe Applotment Books (TAB) and Griffith's Primary Valuation (GPV). The results of these two surveys are summarised in a series of bound volumes which list the occurance of surnames by county, sub-divided by barony, then further sub-divided by civil parish. The entries which relate to Flannery / Flannelly (and spelling variants) have been transcribed and uploaded onto this site. The results for the counties in Connaught and Munster are displayed individually by county, but the results for the counties in Leinster and Ulster are bundled by province for convenience because of the small number of records.

The summary is useful in a number of ways :-

1. If you are unsure which county your Flannery ancestors came from, the summary acts as a rough guide by highlighting the most likely and least likely counties.
2. If you know the county, but are unsure which parish your ancestors came from, the summary provides a further breakdown of the most popular and least popular parishes.

Here is the summary by province, county, barony and parish ...

Note

These uploaded records are a manual transcription of bound volumes which are themselves manual transcriptions of either the original journals or microfilmed copies of the journals. The original journals themselves may contain errors and omissions, and so may each subsequent transcription. Even a microfilmed copy could miss a page. We did our best!

Refer to the Central Archive for transcripts of each individual entry for each record in every parish.
