Cricket Quarter-Final Cracker
Coolmountain narrowly defeated Lismore in a fiercly contested Minor Cup Quarter-Final at Bandon Grammar School last Saturday. Coolmountain opened the batting and were 72 runs to the good before losing their first wicket. Simon Cracknell played an inspired innings scoring 47 before falling to some tricky bowling from Lismore captain John Ind, he continued to take wickets but Coolmountains' middle order batted well, posting a score of 175 from the 40 overs.
Lismore started their innings well, scoring rapidly against the pacey bowling attack. It looked as if they might run away with the game had it not been for a brilliant run-out by gully fieldsman Ian O'Neill. Lismore were still in a very strong position needing only 3 runs per over.
Martin Prince bowled well in the wet conditions dismissing two more batsmen Simon Cracknell also had reason to celebrate when he sent David Ind back to the pavillion for a duck. A further run-out made the game even more exciting as Lismore battled hard to regain their composure but when Pete Sherlock took another wicket the balance tipped in favour of Coolmountain.
Dave Richings returned to bowl out the final overs and produced the killer blow taking 3 wickets in as many overs to finish of the Lismore innings. Coolmountain won by 15 runs in a game that will be remembered for the highly competitive spirit displayed by both teams in this highly entertaining game.
