Richard Geoghegan

Richard has represented Ireland in Many European and International Championships and in TWO Paralympic Games. He has held the No.1 Ranking (Class 3) since 1983. In 1983 he represented Ireland at the European Championships, Germany.
Richard represented Ireland at the Paralympics, England and reached the quarter finals in 1984 and won Gold at the Irish Wheelchair Championships. In 1985 Richard represented Ireland at the Vienna International Games, Austria and won silver at the European Championships, Holland and won Gold at home at the Irish Championships. In 1986 Richard won Silver at the International Stoke Mandeville Games, England. 1987 saw Richard winning Gold at the International Stoke Mandeville Games, England and he won Gold at the Irish Championships. In 1988 Richard won silver at the Irish Championships and represented Ireland at the Seoul Paralympics, Korea and came fourth after a close exciting encounter with Hong Kong winning it 22-20 in the 3rd game. Richard won Bronze at the European championships, Vienna in 1989. At the world championships, Holland in 1990 Richard got to the semi finals. He retired from International Competition due to a shoulder injury in 1991 but remains involved with the National Wheelchair events. Richard also plays in the Galway & District Leagues and won Division 1 in 1993 with the Corrib Rowing & Yachting Club. He captained the winning Commercial Boat Club Team in division One in 1999.
