Parking!

May we take this opportunity to remind those of you who drive your children to school to please respect the privacy of local residents and particularly to refrain from parking at the Beeches. We would also request that parents park nose-to-kerb in the designated set-down area on Balally Drive and avoid parking on grass verges and in residents’ driveways. This can be extremely frustrating for residents who often find it impossible to enter / leave their homes.

Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

Parents’ Voluntary Contribution.

A sincere thanks to all families who have returned Voluntary contributions. To date, over 50% have paid (€11,000) and we encourage those, who may have forgotten, to send in their contribution as soon as possible.

The background to the increased contribution this year is as follows:

·  Of the €1.36 million received by Balally Parish for Diocesan lands adjoining the school, almost €180,000 was contributed towards the works carried out over the summer.

·  The Board of Management paid out over €26,000 for tarmacadam works in the car park and playground; provision of 4 extra car park spaces and new fencing to the rear of the school

·  The BOM also funded a shortfall of €4,000 for electrical upgrade work.

These works were not funded by the Parish as they were viewed as being the  responsibility of the Dept. Of Education.

The net result of these works left the BOM with a shortfall of over €30,000. We acknowledge the support of the Finance Committee and we hope that this will clarify any misunderstandings which may have arisen in relation to these works.

 First Communion

Congratulations to all our 2nd class boys & girls who celebrated their First Holy Communion on Saturday April 16th .

It was a beautiful ceremony and great credit goes to Ms Conroy and Ms Ní Chathláin for the long hours of preparation for this occasion. Thanks also to Mrs Fagan and the school Choir, to Paula and to Naomh Olaf GAA Club & the Parents’ Assn. for the fabulous party provided for everyone after the Mass.

Enrolment of New Pupils.

Applications for the enrolment of new pupils in St. Olaf’s for Sept. 2006 and onwards are currently being taken at the Office. We would encourage anybody who has not applied, to do so as soon as possible.

All classes for 2005 are now filled and the meeting for Parents of New Pupils for the 2005 school year will be held in the school Hall on Thursday, June 2nd   at 1.15pm.

Art Exhibition

We would like to congratulate all our young artists who had their work framed and exhibited in the school hall recently. It was a great success and a huge thanks goes to the children for their great work and to those who came along to support the event. Over €300 was raised for charity by this event for which we are very grateful.

Healthy Lunches

We would like to remind parents (& children) of our Healthy Lunch policy which forbids crisps, popcorn & gum and which promotes the taking of fruit / yoghurt at 1st break.

Children should not be given packets of sweets as part of their lunch and biscuits / bars may only be taken at 2nd break along with a sandwich or other nourishing alternative.

The full policy may be viewed on our website.
