CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Emly Senior Citizen's Christmas Party took place today (Sunday) in the Golden Thatch. Mass was first celebrated by Fr. Seamus Rochford PP. The Emly parish choir performed Christmas carols both during and after the Mass. Over 80 people sat down for dinner and later they were joined by many other family members and parishioners for an enjoyable evening of music and dance led by local musicians Seamus Walsh and Michael Burke.

Our photograph shows Mrs Mary Moloney, Farran, cutting the party cake.

He is bereaved by his wife Bridget, his son Ken, brothers and sisters. Funeral Mass was celebrated in Templebraden Church and burial took place in Emly cemetery. May he rest in peace.

The photograph on left shows the two in-calf heifers who were recently sent to Kosovo from Emly being loaded before departure in the church carpark. Among those present were (L to R) Jimmy Hickey, Paddy Hanley, John O'Brien, Jim Corby and Peter Breen.

DECEMBER 10TH 2000:

DONATION TO KOSOVO: On Monday last two in-calf heifers started their journey from Emly to Kosovo in Yugoslavia as part of the 'Bothar' project to help that country after the recent civil war there. This resulted in the destruction of farms and the loss of stock. Many parishioners gathered in the church car park to see the animals make their departure. The heifers were donated by local farmers and the cost of transport was also raised locally. It is the practice in these 'Bothar' projects that the donor family must in turn donate the first heifer calf born to another family and this family will also do the same. So the charitable donations from Emly will have a long lasting effect.

G.A.A: The annual general meeting of the Emly Gaelic Athletic club was held last Friday night in the Golden Thatch. The reports of the various officers of the club reviewed the activities of the year. Many speakers paid tribute to the members of the club who were involved with the recent publication of the club history and the organisation of the launch of the book. Tributes were also paid to the members who took responsibility for the management of the many teams fielded each year by the club at all levels.

The following officers were elected: Chairman: John McGrath. V.Chairman: Tadhg O'Meara. Secretary: Antoinette Cunningham. Treasurer: Michael Ryan. Asst. Treasurer: Ailbe Ryan. PRO: Shane Slattery. Youth Officer: Seamus Walsh.

PADDY CLANCY: At the above reported AGM, it was announced that Paddy Clancy was retiring as a member of the Emly GAA Committee after serving continuously on it for 44years. In those years Paddy filled all the officer roles in the club. Many tributes were paid to Paddy and it was noted that his long wish to publish the history of the club was now fulfilled. He was chairman of the history sub-committee that worked so hard over the past few years to research the history of the club. Paddy was unanimously appointed an honorary vice-president of the club in recognition of his great service.

DECEMBER 3rd 2000:

GREENER IRELAND AWARD: There has been great satisfaction expressed locally at the Regional Award for the Four Seasons Park which was announced last Monday. This was a special competition run by the Department of the Environment in this Millennium year. A special plaque was presented to Denis Heffernan in Dublin Castle last Monday. Congratulations to the members of the Tidy Town Committee for their great work in the development of the Park. Even now, in the middle of our wet and windy winter, the Park is looking beautiful. But then, it is a Four Seaons Park.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sinead Condon and Emma Richardson who recently won county minor camogie medals (u.18) playing with Galbally in the Limerick championship. For the benefit of our many overseas readers camogie is the game of hurling played by our ladies.

DECEASED: The death took place during the week of Larry Creamer, 5, St. Ailbe's Drive, Emly who had been ill for some time. Larry, who was 72 years, was originally a native of Ballyvistea, Emly. He was pre-deceased by his wife Julia just one year ago. He is bereaved by his immediate family, daughters Bernie and Geraldine and sons, Paddy, Tommy, Larry, Paul and Noel.

ADVENT: Today we start our preparations for Christmas when we try to get into the real spirit of the season. Perhaps, we should remember that Christ can come into our world through our generosity, patience and loving. That makes us very important.

The Minister for the Environment today announced the specialNational Awards for the Millennium Year Environmental Projects. The Emly Four Seasons Park was given a Regional Award valued at £10,000.

NOVEMBER 25th 2000:

HELP TO KOSOVO : Two in-calf heifers have been donated from the parish to the Bothar organisation to be sent to two needy families in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Money has also been donated to cover the cost of sending the animals. They are due to be sent within the next two weeks. The agricultural fabric of Kosovo was badly damaged in the civil war and the work of Bothar is a very practical way of helping the farming community there.

DUHIG HOUSE: Members, relations and friends of the Duhig family gathered in the newly renovated Duhig House on Friday night last to remember the family who lived in that house for nearly all of the last century. During this time members of the Duhig family served as parish sacristans. The last to do so was Maggie Duhig who died in 1998. Mass was offered by Fr. Seamus Rochford PP. After Mass refreshments were served and memories of the past and the 'open house' of the Duhig family were recalled.

CONGRATULATIONS to Larry and Elizabeth Russell, formerly of Ballyhone, Emly who yesterday (Saturday) celebrated the golden Jubilee of their wedding. Mass was celebrated in the Convent Chapel, Tipperary by Fr. Sean Kennedy CC, Emly and was followed by a family celebration.
