JANUARY/MARCH: This site has not been updated since just before Christmas last. My apologies to all those who every week logged on to get the latest from Emly. We had some technical difficulties with the site and had to change the whole system. It was difficult to get the time to have the matter rectified but now hopefully all is well again and we will be able to give you regular updates of news and happenings in the parish and the locality.

UPDATING: Just before Christmas the death took place of Toby Burke, Railway Rd. at the great age of 105 years. There was great sadness at the passing of somebody who was so highly regarded in the parish and who up to the end of his life was interested in all that was happening in the world both locally and nationally. He spent just one day in bed before quietly passing away on 23rd Dec. His funeral took place on St. Stephen's Day (26th Dec) in Emly Church with burial in Emly graveyard. He is bereaved by his sons and daughters and his many relations which included great-great-grandchildren.

On the 8th Jan 2001, the death took place of Michael Hanley, Tulla, aged 72 years. Michael, a native of Ballylanders, for many years operated a pub and garage in Tulla (formerly Bradshaws). He had been ill for just one year. Michael was buried in Ballylanders after requiem Mass in Emly. He is bereaved by his wife May and children Nora, Michael and Ger.

Paddy McEniry, Clashdrumsmith, died on 26th Feb last having been ill for just a short time. Paddy, had spent a number of years in America. Aged 77 years, he was a member of a large family many of whom have pre-deceased him. He sister Mary and brother, Brother Dermot are living in Ireland. Funeral took place in Emly after Mass in the Parish church.

Tommy Bourke (Steve), Main Street, Emly, died suddenly on the 8th March. A well known figure in Emly, Tommy was known as somebody who could 'turn his hand' to many things. Aged 84 years, he had been up and about until his sudden death. Tommy was pre-deceased almost 4 years ago by his wife Mary. He is mourned by his family Margaret, Mary, Geraldine, Michael and Pat. He was buried in Emly graveyard after Mass in St. Ailbe's.

May all our dead rest in peace.

Our picture shows the Four Seasons Park in a winter setting. This winter we experienced some very harsh weather which included some heavy falls of snow. The rural scene in more recent weeks has been very much affected by the threat of foot-and-mouth disease. Farmers and non-farmers are very conscious of the seriousness of the situation and everybody is careful to take the necessary disinfectant precautions. Sporting, travel and social activites have also been curtailed.
