Ninpo and Ju Jutsu evolved
out of the necessity to develop and maintain a just society for everyone. In
creating safe and secure environments, these arts play a crucial role in
establishing national security. True martial arts are based on martial strategy
and humanity. The true purpose of Ninpo and Ju Jutsu is to bring light in times
of darkness.
Historically, Ninpo was of
the highest level of defensive arts utilised in ancient Japan. The Emperors
bodyguards, and the palace guards were trained in Ninpo ryu ha (martial
traditions). And it often happened that Emperors themselves were schooled in
Ninpo strategy.
The Samurai, using the
techniques of Ju Jutsu, acted as the original police force in Japan.
It is not by chance that
today still, through the Genbukan and KJJR, it is Ninpo and Ju Jutsu techniques
that have been incorporated into the highest level of law enforcement
authorities throughout the world.
Grandmaster Tanemura Sensei formed the
Genbukan World Ninpo Bugei Federation in 1984, so that people from all over the
world could benefit from the precious techniques, evolved over many hundreds of
years, to protect our societies from dangerous elements.
“Ninpo Bugei is taught for
illumination, awareness and defence of mind, body and spirit. Come without fear
and train, for what was once thickly veiled knowledge is now to be shared.
Having served in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department 14 years and having
taught people from all over the world Ninpo, I firmly believe that Ninpo Bugei
has come of age. There is a real need for this exalted martial art”
"Tanemura Shoto Sensei"
Grandmaster Tanemura Shoto
Sensei served in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police for 14 years. Initially he was a
police officer and later he became a specialist instructor. During his years of
service he had numerous serious encounters on a day to day basis. In doing so,
he accumulated a wealth of experience not only as a police officer but as a
martial artist also.
Like many police officers
today, these situations encompassed attacks from knife, stick, gun and various
weapons from single and multiple attackers. Many other scenarios that Tanemura
Sensei was involved with entailed hostage and hijack crisis and anti-terrorist
situations.

After departing from the
police to teach Ninpo on a full time basis, Tanemura Sensei was invited by
several police forces around the world to teach about high-level defence
techniques. Hence he has taught for many police departments and agencies
including FBI and various SWAT teams. The teachings are not only for regular
police officers but all kinds of security personnel including bodyguards and
close protection teams.
Due to his background, Tanemura Sensei is
deeply concerned about the needs of police officers and security personnel. He
identifies with the dangerous situations that they continually confront, often
at great risk to their own lives and he understands the pressures and
difficulties that come with the job.
Many modern police/security training
methods are already contained within the most fundamental of Ninpo and Ju Jutsu
training. As no two situations are ever the same, an officer requires a degree
of training that enables him or her to be flexible in situations which are, by
nature, unpredictable.
Ninpo and Ju Jutsu have countless
techniques, too numerous to mention, to deal with many scenarios. However,
perhaps more importantly, Genbukan and KJJR training nourishes the instinct.
This instinct, like a super sense, focuses ones level of awareness enabling
flexible responses and a will to survive.
It is by receiving correct training that a student can
develop the ability to be prepared not only physically and mentally, but on a
spiritual level also.
This is the protective
nature of true martial arts.
