The
Packaging:
The movie comes in a clear amaray case.
The cover (which is seen above) has a relfective
silver surface. The inside of the case lists the
special features. Behind the disc is a "Battle
Royale" logo with two intertwining
neckcollars. The disc is a picture-disc (seen
above) with all the major characters in a red
tint. All first pressings of the disc contain
some Battle Royale stickers as well! Overall it
looks very classy and miles more pleasant on the
eye than the Universe release...
The
Video:
Wow! This really has to be seen to be
believed! I was weened on that VCD for so long
that the minute the Toei logo hit the screen, I
thought I was watching another film! Absolutely
perfect print from what I can tell. Its
anamorphic too, so those with 16:9 tvs are in for
a treat. Heres some scans from the film. Compare
these with the screen captures in the Gallery and see just how good the
picture quality is...
The Audio:
Japanese 5.1 & 2.0 Surround
Again... tops! I only have a 2.0 set-up
but the speakers were going mental in some scenes.
Its very clear and none of the dialogue is muted
in anyway. Theres also some amazing bass in some
scenes (eg. anywhere with a shot of the sea and
when Kitano throws the knife at Fujiyoushi).
Unfortunately I haven't heard the 5.1 track yet,
but as soon as I do, I'll post my thoughts on
that.
The
Subtitles:
A lot of you might already know this, but I'll reiterate
as to not cause confusion with the uninitiated.... there are
NO....I repeat NO English subs on this disc.
There aren't even any Japanese ones...
