Belfast-born Fr James Brawley died in Bairnsdale, Vic. (Australia), 2 August, aged 84. After Bolton, Chertsey and Battersea, Fr Jim served in Pallaskenry in the 1960s, where he was in charge of music and kept the choir and orchestra alive, as well as keeping pet cats! Jim's 3-year loan to Australia in 1966 as a teacher stretched to 8 in Port Pirie as catechist and rector, 8 as bursar at Chadstone, 7 as teacher at Brooklyn Park and 13 as bursar at Bairnsdale. 'Jim was always in his best humour at table,' said Australian Provincial Fr Ian Murdoch, 'and even when accidents happened and empty spaces appeared in the boxed sets of lead crystal glasses, the worst it drew from Jim was something about Philistines and tin mugs next time!'
